There’s another new term you may be hearing your kids and teens saying these days: “You the birthday.”

The good news is this term is usually a good thing. Unlike phrases that are made to diss others—think chopped or bop—this one can be used as a pretty nice compliment. Let’s break it down.

While some say the term can be used to describe someone who is trying too hard, Hubbard says it’s typically used in a positive way.

“Birthday is actually functioning as an adjective,” explains Hubbard. “You’re not at a birthday. You’re not having a birthday. You are the birthday. You embody the celebration. You the whole vibe. You the reason everybody showed up.”
