Another day, another new social media trend that is going viral. But it’s important parents don’t simply write off what’s being called the “flip the phone challenge,” or the “flip the camera challenge.” Because experts agree that the potential ramifications are quite dangerous for kids being targeted by the trend, and even for kids who are participating.

Basically, a group of kids asks someone to film them doing a dance for TikTok. But at the last moment, they actually flip the camera view so that the filmer’s reaction is captured instead, and shared on social media.

This may sound innocent enough, but the person asked to film is usually someone who struggles to fit in or has learning or social challenges. The “flip the phone challenge” essentially glorifies bullying, with the situation only made more heartbreaking as mean-spirited comments pour in from users.
