One thing to know about younger generations is that they are so much more attuned and open about their mental health than their elders. That means they don’t mind using platforms like TikTok to share their experiences with issues like anxiety and depression. When they come across solutions that help ease their anxiety in daily life, they are eager to share.

The anxiety bag is one of those ideas. It’s a pouch that can easily fit and be thrown into a backpack or purse containing any comfort items that might make it easier to get through a period of intense anxiety.

No matter what is in the bag, the point is to give yourself immediate access to items that will both distract and soothe you if you feel not just garden-variety anxiety, but overstimulated or on the brink of a panic attack.

Younger generations—Gen Z and Gen Alpha—need all the tools they can get to take control of their mental health on their own terms. By sharing their experiences with how anxiety bags have helped give them a mental boost, they make other teens and young adults going through similar experiences feel less isolated—like their mental health struggles are a common part of growing up and learning more about themselves, rather than a source of shame.
