For eight years there was always another day of shooting The Chosen on the calendar. Now there isn’t.

The series about the life of Jesus has wrapped filming on its seventh and final season in Midlothian, Texas, finishing a shoot that started in late April.

Season 7 covers the Resurrection. Season 6, the Crucifixion, starts streaming on Prime Video Nov. 15, and a theatrical version of the Crucifixion arrives March 12, 2027.

The Resurrection was the part Creator Dallas Jenkins had been nervous about. For the first few seasons, he said, he steered away from the supernatural because it’s “a hard thing to capture and do right” and he wasn’t sure the show had the tools.

“In this season, I’ve had to give up some of that,” he said. “There’s some supernatural things that happen in Season 6 and 7 that have to be captured.”

Asked what eight years of filming the Gospels did to his own faith, Jenkins pointed to one thing: “The thing that has stood out the most is how intimate Jesus was with people. I believe that this show has taught me, and it seems to have engaged viewers in the same way, that Jesus wants a personal relationship with you.”

The Chosen is finished filming, but Jenkins isn’t finished with biblical epics. A Joseph of Egypt miniseries the team shot last year is due early next year, a Moses show goes into a writers’ retreat in November and an animated project called Chosen Adventures is underway. He told reporters the Book of Acts is the long-term plan.
